![]() Thunder Over Kosovo by Rick Herter On 15 May 1999, the men and women from three Air National Guard units deployed to Trapani AB, Sicily to establish the 104th Expeditionary Operations Group. Within 36 hours of arrival at this bare base facility, pilots from the 110th Fighter Wing, Battle Creek, Michigan, 104th Fighter Wing, Barnes AB, Massachusetts and the 124th Wing, Boise Idaho were flying combat missions over Kosovo. This painting recaptures the moments shortly after one of these members recovers from a bombing run against Serbian artillery positions in "The Hog Pen." As in Desert Storm, the A-10 Thunderbolt II showed its value and capabilities during Operation Allied Force attacking targets such as enemy armor, artillery positions, troops and bunkers without sustaining a single loss.
