HONORING JAMES B. STOCKDALE,
VICE ADMIRAL, UNITED STATES NAVY, RETIRED
James B. Stockdale led the
first American air attacks against
North Vietnam in 1964, and his Fighter
Squadron 51 flew Combat Air Patrols
(CAPs) above the USS Ticonderoga.
In February 12, 1973, he was the seniornaval
officer in NorthVietnam's Prisoner of War
camps - leading
and organized resistance by all POWs
against enemy interrogation and torture.
For his "intrepidity at the
risk of his own life above and beyond
the call of duty,"James B. Stockdale
was presented with the nation's highest
decoration for gallantry,
the Medal of Honor.
